After the successful second studio album “Freedom For All”, which was released on May 13, 2022 including an extremely extensive back catalog and climbed to the 1st place of the scene-relevant German Alternative Charts in July 2022, Projekt Ich from Rosenheim releases with “Mr Crowley” the second title from a series of singles with cover versions of songs that have inspired mastermind Ulf Müller since his youth and have accompanied him until today, on the German indie label Echozone.
As a singer Ulf was able to engage the highly talented Dasha Larks from Pulse Lab in Finland, just like on the song “VR Chained” from the last album “Freedom For All”. The soulful saxophone parts in the special edit version of “Mr Crowley” are by Manuel Trabucco from Italy.
The original song “Mr Crowley” was written by Ozzy Osbourne and is about the English occultist Aleister Crowley. The song was written by Osbourne, guitarist Randy Rhoads and bass guitarist Bob Daisley. The song was released on September 20, 1980 in the UK on Ozzy Osbourne’s debut solo album “Blizzard Of Ozz” on the Jet Records label.
Why this song? Ulf Müller himself: “”Mr Crowley” I heard for the first time in 1985 or 1986. I was obsessed with this song and listened to it in continuous loop until the tape exploded. It was just magical. Unfortunately, it was the only song I had by Ozzy for some time. In the GDR it was not so easy to get hold of the material “music”. My old school friend always supplied our clique with fresh fringe-scene music from abroad. From metal, punk and various oldschool genres, everything was there. Ozzy Osbourne and his intense, great music is still one of my favorite metal acts. Looking back, I think to myself: mad, the old master of metal drew me into his (Ozzy’s) spell in the mid-80s with a song about the self-proclaimed “Great Beast 666,” the British occultist Aleister Crowley.”
