Czech-Slovak synthpop band Lakeside X released their long-awaited album “Love Disappears” in October 2022 after a long hiatus under the guidance of respected German producer Daniel Myer. So far, four singles have been released from the album, which gradually reminded the band after a long time. After “Fire in the Sky”, “Rising”, “Lifeline” and “Time Has Come”, “Fascination” is the fifth single from the current album.
A pulsating hypnotic synth-wave anthem that opens the album has found quite a few fans in the short time since its release.n.
“When I started writing stuff for the new album, I listened to a lot of synth-wave and this idea was among the first ones. It was basically a variation on Kavinsky, I liked the rhythm, the bass and the motif that reminded me of the eighties. For a long time the idea was in a drawer, but when we discussed the written material with producer Daniel Myer, he really liked it and insisted that I finish it. There were several versions and one of them included a chorus, if you can call it that, which gave the song its final form. In the studio, Daniel perfected the song I knew from the start that this had to be the first song on the album, but I never imagined how well this thing would work live,” says writer and singer Janne Marvannen.
The band returned to the stage after eight long years and played their very first concert in October 2022 at Lucerna Music Bar in Prague, where they christened their new album and where new guest guitarist Jakub Zachoval (ex-Smrtislav) performed with the band for the first time. “Since the autumn we have played several concerts, besides the release party at Lucerna Music Bar we have done a mini-tour with Dušan Vozáry, Petr Kučera and the band Jerusalem and we have positive impressions from all these performances. It’s as if with the new line-up and the new album we have discovered a chemistry that works, that entertains us and people, and where we can fully show what is in our music”, says keyboardist Robert Broj and adds: “Fascination is one of the most popular songs at our shows. It’s a joy to play, to watch people sway to the beat and enjoy the atmosphere.”
The band has always paid attention to the visuals of their performances, and this is no different today. “We’ve always used projections and tried to add some visual enhancement to the show, but this time we’ve taken it a step further by having the projections fully synchronised with the sound and adding our own lights, ” says Igor Dvorsky, who plays drums in the band, but is also responsible for most of the band’s visual output, so in addition to the stage projections, he is also the author of the album design, single artwork and the director and cinematographer of the band’s music videos. He is well qualified for this – he has also created stage projections and visuals for Alan Wilder and his Recoil project. “We’ve got a lot of interesting material from the new shows and we’ve never had so much quality footage. We’ve always wanted to have a concert video, and the environment of Lucerna Music Bar with its large LED wall proved to be perfect for our visuals. So we decided that the new single would be a good opportunity to show our current concert image.”
The single/EP “Fascination” is released on March 17 and in addition to the single version of the song, it also includes remixes and live tracks. The remix of Fascination by the Pe3Vax project seems to have fallen out of the creative workshop of the Yazoo duo sometime in late 1981/82, while the Bare Harmonium Mix of Out Of This World by the band themselves takes you on a dreamy walk through the Nordic landscape. The EP is complemented by three live tracks – Fascination, Fire In The Sky and Wonder – all recorded at the album release party at Lucerna Music Bar.
