BlackCarBurning feat. Mari Kattmann

Home1.0 Music1.1 NewsBlackCarBurning feat. Mari Kattmann

When Mark Hockings (mesh) started Blackcarburning, he was looking forward to changing things up a bit. One thing was clear from the beginning. He wanted to involve his circle of friends and hand over the microphone every now and then so he could concentrate on writing catchy pop songs. The opener “Divide Us” is a fantastic collaboration with Mari Kattman (Helix with Tom Shear), an impressive artist. Together they created an intimate and exciting pop gem. The impeccable production by John Fryer gives “Divide Us” that shimmering sheen that makes you want to hit the repeat button again and again.

But if you missed Mark’s silky vocals on the title track, rejoice, because he makes up for it with “Lies and Romance” and “Hive”. “Lies and Romance” is a wonderfully torn and introverted song that should sound familiar to anyone who has ever had their heart broken into a million pieces. “Hive” is up close and personal with a chorus that opens the track like a ray of light piercing through a dark sky. The EP closes with the playful “The Grace of Heavy Lifting”.

All versions are exclusive to this EP and only “Divide Us” will be featured on his upcoming album “Watching Sleepers” (27 January 2023).
