Unbending. A word like this is so much more than a phrase for Rainer. From day one of his aspired musical world domination Nachtmahr was exposed to headwinds of hurricane strength, he was attacked, pilloried, openly hated. Alliances were made against him, old friendships were buried. But Thomas Rainer was not deterred. With every album, with every EP, with every concert, he proved iron will and steadfastness, proved victorious – and shaped the black scene with his art, his aesthetics and his apocalyptic sound like few did before him. The artwork, the uniforms, the style and the linguistics established a fashion all his own, by which his troops were instantly recognized.
From the very beginning Nachtmahr stood for much more than music, for much more than a relentlessly knee-jerking sound. Nachtmahr is a philosophy, an attitude towards life, a worldview. And this retrospective is the impressive muscle play of a leader, the biography of an emperor – uncomfortable, relentless, unbending!
In May, two collector’s editions will be released. On the one hand “Kunst ist Krieg” and the compilation “Unbeugsam” as limited vinyl editions.
